The couple kissed for 46 hours and 24 minutes celebrating Valentine’s Day back on february 2011. You can see them in the photo (AP Photo – Apichart Weerawong) with the registration certificate after winning the world’s longest continuous kiss contest in Thailand. They locked lips for 46 hours, 24 minutes and 9 seconds, they even had to remain embraced when needed to go to the bathroom (breaks) with the contest referees.

The couple earned 100.000 baht in cash and a diamond ring worth 50.000 baht as a prize. Previously, Guinness world record, certified a kiss of 32 hours 7 minutes by Nikola Matovic and Kristina Reinhart in Germany, back on 2009. Also exists a Guinness world record achieved in Germany for the longest time to kiss a car, by a group of nine people with 32 hours. The Guinness world record rules for this specific record are strict, the lovers lips cannot part at any time. They only are allowed to drink through straws while kissing. The hardest rule is that they can not sleep or sit.

The pairs that took part in the constest were nearly all thai and ranged from 21 to 51 years old, there was also a german couple and a gay couple, even Thailand is still a very conservative nation where kissing in public is not polite. Participants had to prove they were married or a truly couple. The marriage certificate or even a letter from the parents was acceptable.

“We didn’t think we would find anybody that could break the record,” said Somporn Naksuetrong, the manager of Pattaya’s Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks museum, which organized the competition. That seven couples apparently did, he said, “is amazing.” “We want to show that love is meaningful and powerful,” Somporn said. “It’s not easy to stand there and kiss for that long. They really have to help each other and support each other.”
